As the Gregorian New Year begins, we also have another reason to celebrate with the Lunar New Year festivities. This year, PUMA and STAPLE have joined forces to create the Year of the Dragon 2024 collection.
Many brands collaborate on special releases that are inspired by the Chinese Zodiac, also known as Shengxiao, which consists of 12 animals that represent the cycles of time. This year is the Year of the Dragon, symbolizing new possibilities and opportunities.
The PUMA x STAPLE collection takes inspiration from classic designs in the PUMA archives and incorporates elements from the STAPLE archive as well. The collection showcases the brand’s original “S” dragon logo and features the signature black, grey, and pink color palettes of STAPLE. Traditional graphics inspired by the craft and traditions of the Lunar New Year are also present in the collection.
The sneaker collection includes two Suede and two 180 silhouettes, each in contrasting colorways. The Suede Year of the Dragon is crafted from premium pebbled leather and features a hairy suede toe box and heel counter embroidery. The upper is adorned with the debossed “S” Dragon logo, PUMA and “S” Dragon tongue label, and a gold foil PUMA logo on the lateral side. The Pigeon and PUMA icons can be found on the heel tab, while the gum rubber outsole and custom graphic insoles add unique details.
Similarly, the 180 silhouette features a hairy suede and pebbled leather upper with multiple overlays. It also includes a leather Formstrip, Pigeon and PUMA icons on the heel tab, and a printed Pigeon on the tongue. The sneaker offers comfort with its thick padding and vintage distressed midsole, finished off with a gum rubber outsole.
The apparel collection consists of two hoodies, four tees, and two sweatpants, completing the Lunar New Year-themed collection.
The PUMA x STAPLE collection to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2024 will be available internationally at the STAPLE online store from January 30, 2024. It will also be released at PUMA.com on February 1, 2024. Locally, the collection can be purchased at PUMA.com starting from February 10, as well as in select PUMA Retail outlets, Archive, Superbalist, and Al Capone stores. Join in on the festivities and follow the dragon with this exciting collaboration between PUMA and STAPLE.
