Nike, known for its storied heritage in sportswear, has had many iconic models throughout the years. While the brand’s dominance in the sneaker market is indisputable, the resurgence of classic styles like the Adidas Samba has put Nike’s dominance to the test. In a nod to this retro revival, Nike is reintroducing the Field General 82, a silhouette that was once worn by football legends like Archie Manning in the 1980s.
Although we’ve seen a preview of an upcoming collaboration on the model with Union, the Field General 82 is also set to have a series of inline releases, starting with the clean-cut White Varsity Red colorway.
This upcoming iteration of the Nike Field General 82 SP features a crisp white leather and nylon base, giving it a timeless athletic aesthetic. The varsity red accents provide a striking contrast, highlighting the iconic Swoosh, heel tab, and tongue tag. The branding on the heel tab stands out in bold white. The design is completed with a black midsole that complements the simplicity of the upper, and a black waffle-patterned rubber outsole designed for exceptional traction.
The streamlined look, minimalistic paneling, and classic low-top silhouette of the Field General 82 are reminiscent of the enduring appeal of the adidas Samba. This positions the Field General 82 as Nike’s stylish answer to vintage soccer-inspired kicks.
The Nike Field General 82 SP White Varsity Red will be released in February 2024 through Nike SNKRS and select Nike NBHD retailers, both online and in-store. This heritage-rich model will be available in men’s sizing and priced at $100.
