In a surprising tribute to its past, Nike has introduced the Dunk Low “Waffle” sneaker, pairing waffles and sneakers in an unexpected combination. The inspiration for this unique creation can be traced back to the 1970s when Nike’s co-founder, Bill Bowerman, came up with the idea of using a waffle iron to create a waffle-style sole. The distinctive pattern that resulted from this experiment has since become a signature design element for Nike.
The waffle pattern made a comeback in 2016 with the SB Dunk High, where it was reproduced on the sneaker’s upper using a special woven fabric. The Dunk Low continues this legacy by featuring a waffle-stamped upper and a gum rubber outsole. However, the Dunk Low adds its own special touches to differentiate itself from its predecessor.
The Nike Dunk Low “Waffle” stands out with its color scheme of “Wheat,” “Coconut Milk,” “Sesame,” “Black,” and “Total Orange.” The sneaker’s base is made of hairy suede in a delicious “Wheat” color, while the waffle pattern is prominently displayed on the quarter panels, as well as on the tongue and insole labels. The “Wheat” shade extends to the tongue, mesh lining, and insoles, creating a cohesive visual appeal.
Soft tumbled leather in a soothing “Sesame” color is used for the overlays, starting from the mudguard and extending to the eye-stays and heel tab. The “Coconut Milk” Swooshes match perfectly with the laces and “Nike” branding on the heel tab, while a touch of “Total Orange” adds vibrancy to the Swooshes on the tongue and insole labels. The design is completed with a caramel sole and gum rubber outsole, providing an extra indulgent touch.
The Nike Dunk Low “Waffle” is set to be released in Spring 2024, with a retail price of $125 USD. Stay tuned for more release details and follow us for updates on the latest sneaker drops and reviews.
