Nike Blazer Mid ’77 “Familia” (Day of the Dead 2023) FQ8173-104 Revamped

October 12, 2023

Nike’s “Familia” collection has been releasing sneakers throughout the month to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. As the month comes to an end, more shoes are being unveiled with themes related to Día de Muertos, or the Day of the Dead.

Día de Muertos is a holiday observed in many Spanish-speaking countries on November 1st and 2nd. It is a time when people honor their loved ones who have passed away by creating elaborate altars with their pictures, favorite foods, and other meaningful items. Nike’s Día de Muertos collection already includes an Air Max 1, Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2, and Dunk Low, with a Blazer Mid ’77 joining the lineup.

The Blazer Mid ’77, a commemorative edition of Nike’s first basketball sneaker, features an understated color palette that captures the somber nature of the holiday. The upper is made of white leather with a faded gold application, while the swooshes and upper spine underlays have black finishes contrasted with gold dust. The shoe box design also adopts the same two-tone arrangement. Instead of the hummingbird embroidery found on other Día de Muertos sneakers, the Blazer Mid ’77 has a golden crescent on the lateral heels, representing the moon. The sole units have a light gum brown color that complements the rest of the shoe.

Official photos of the Blazer Mid ’77 have been released, and they are scheduled to be available on Nike SNKRS on October 21st.

In other sneaker news, the Air Jordan 11 “Gratitude” will be released for the whole family in early December.
