Go go, Power Rangers! Since their debut on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series in 1993, this beloved brand has captured the hearts of kids and adults alike. And it’s not just confined to the TV screen – the Power Rangers have branched out into movies, comics, live shows, and a wide range of toys for both kids and collectors.
But their influence doesn’t stop there. The Power Rangers have even made their mark in the world of streetwear, specifically sneakers. Recently, Sneaker Fortress featured the Power Rangers x Air Jordan 1 Mid sneaker, which gained a lot of attention. This led us to go back into the archives and explore another popular concept: the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers x Nike Dunk Low collection.
Designed by Bob Ng from the nobrainer.psd Instagram page, this collection pays homage to the original series. Each sneaker in the collection represents one of the six Power Rangers: Red (Jason), Black (Zack), Pink (Trini), Yellow (Kim), Blue (Billy), and Green (Tommy). The sneakers follow a two-tone design, with a white base and contrasting overlays in each Power Ranger’s color.
To mimic the pattern on their suits, the front of the sneakers features triangular cutouts. Gold embellishments, including the Swoosh logo and Zord symbols, add an extra touch of flair. The gold details also mirror the design on their belts, which display the symbols of various prehistoric animals.
Adding a personal touch, the rear of each sneaker’s Swoosh logo features a red tag. The Power Rangers’ names are written in black lettering on the midsole, giving it a handwritten feel. The midsole itself is off-white, while the rubber sole is black. The laces are also off-white, and the tongue is black to represent the Power Rangers’ iconic blacked-out helmet visors.
Three of the sneakers have a black toebox, while the other three have a light grey finish. This grey matches the color beneath the collar on each of the sneakers. While the collection focuses on the original Power Rangers, it would have been exciting to see a variation featuring the Megazord, the combination of all the Power Rangers’ Zords.
