New Balance’s 99X series has been around for decades, and one of its iconic models, the New Balance 996, is celebrating its 35th birthday. Throughout the year, we have seen various Made in USA iterations of the 996, but now, Japanese collaborator BEAMS has given the sneaker a unique twist with the introduction of Gore-Tex.
The BEAMS x New Balance 996 GTX is a harmonious fusion of technical materials and visual appeal. Constructed from Gore-Tex fabric, the sneaker features a combination of synthetic suede and mesh, providing a weather-resistant finish suitable for various conditions. One standout element of this collaboration is the mismatched design, with each pair showcasing woodland camouflage shades, including browns, greens, tans, and olives, artfully distributed across the sneaker.
This camo motif adds a rugged yet sophisticated aesthetic to the shoe. Co-branding is prominent on the tongue, celebrating the partnership between BEAMS and New Balance. Subtle Gore-Tex branding can be found on the insole, and an additional tag near the collar highlights the shoe’s functional qualities. The design is rounded off with a creamy foam midsole and a black rubber outsole.
The highly anticipated BEAMS x New Balance 996 GTX will be available exclusively via BEAMS online on November 18, 2023. As of now, the retail price has yet to be announced.
